Since 2004, the Seminole Pro-Member has been played at the famed Donald Ross club on the Monday before Doral. After 54 consecutive years, the PGA Tour has said goodbye to Trump Doral and Miami. As for what some players, including Davis Love III, have termed "the first major of the year," the show must go on at Seminole Golf Club, in Juno Beach, Fla.

The annual event is held in such high regard that tournament organizers of this week's World Golf Championships Mexico Championship chartered two planes to fly participants to Mexico City: the first after the weekend’s Honda Classic and the second at 4 p.m. today for the 20 participants at Seminole.

Keeping score

1st

Time in five career PGA Tour events in which Rickie Fowler entered the final round with the lead that he closed out a victory, winning The Honda Classic on Sunday. Fowler endured four bogeys, including on the 17th and 18th holes, and a double bogey to shoot 1-over 71 at PGA National’s Champion Course for a 12-under 268 total and hold off co-runners-up Morgan Hoffmann and Gary Woodland by four strokes for his fourth career Tour victory. Fowler also converted a 54-hole lead into victory in the 2016 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship on the European Tour.

3

Number of players at the Joburg Open who qualified for the British Open, led by South African Darren Fichardt, who shot 15-under 200 to win the rain-shortened 54-hole event at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club. It was Fichardt’s fifth European Tour title. Co-runners-up Stuart Manley of Wales and Paul Waring of England also qualified for the 146th Open, on July 20-23 at Royal Birkdale in England.

31

Number of holes that eventual winner Amy Yang played Saturday during the rain-delayed Honda LPGA Thailand. Yang, of South Korea, played them in 11 under en route to a tournament scoring record of 22-under 266 and five-stroke victory over countrywoman So Yeon Ryu.

The way forward for the game

Kudos on Morning Read. It is the only daily email on golf I actually read now, and hope you keep up with valuable industry info and trends.

I have grown weary of the vacuous and idiotic People magazine-style articles in Golf and Golf Digest attempting to attract male millennials to the sport (“Millennials hold the key to golf’s uncertain future,” Morning Read, Feb. 23, bit.ly/2l4X57S).

I am the tournament vice president of the Southern New England Women’s Golf Association. Any info I can glean which will help us attract more female golfers to our association and more female tournament business to golf courses is always appreciated. All junior golfers and female golfers should be a bigger focus for the golf industry, if it hopes to remain financially viable and relevant.
