A dose of reality amid ‘overly positive statements’

So many of the people with whom he has done battle have glossed over the horrible state of the golf industry in terms of participation. With the golfer numbers continuing to dwindle, most accurately tallied and reported by Pellucid, all of the overly positive statements made by many of these power brokers are a disservice. Many of their solutions are oversimplified and not viable. Some are in denial.

Announced: By the PGA Tour, that South Korea will play host to its first official PGA Tour event, the C.J. Cup at Nine Bridges. The tournament, to be played Oct. 19-22, will be held at Nine Bridges on Jeju Island, off the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula. As part of the 10-year deal, the purse was set at $9.25 million for the 78-man, no-cut event.
Approved: By the Texas Senate, a bill that would transfer ownership of Lions Municipal Golf Course from the University of Texas to the state Parks and Wildlife Department, according to the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman. The measure now goes to the House. Sen. Craig Estes, a Republican from Wichita Falls, sponsored the legislation with the hope that Lions Municipal, on the UT campus, will remain a golf course (“Austin’s toughest match: Lions Muny vs. developers,” March 24, bit.ly/2o4XtVm).
The Arccos 360 data-analytics system won a Golf Digest 2017 Editors’ Choice Award in the “Best Gear and Gadgets” category in the magazine’s May issue, Arccos announced. This is the second consecutive year that Arccos has been honored in the category.
