The team of World No. 3 Jason Day and No. 9 Rickie Fowler are revving to go in the inaugural year of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans as a two-man team event, though you wouldn't know from this exchange between the highly-touted tandem.

"We had a team meeting without Rickie there," Day said.

"My caddie was there," Fowler replied.

"He was busy with his beautiful girlfriend, which is understandable," Day said with a snicker.

Call Congress.

That would be a great follow-up to the efforts made Wednesday by the allied organizations during the 10th National Golf Day on Capitol Hill.

From its roots as a lobbying initiative to inform legislators about golf’s economic impact, National Golf Day has evolved beyond mere education to focus on issues.

Presume that golfers are honest and just play

The USGA and R&A are right. Any tournament should be won or lost on the shots hit, not some high-definition TV ruling that stops play while everyone debates (“Looser rules guidelines offer convenient excuses,” April 26, http://bit.ly/2oKWREu).

Golf is an honorable game. 99.9 percent of the people who play it are honorable. Let's assume as much and move on.

FROM THE INDUSTRY

Srixon has been awarded a Golf Digest Hot List gold medal for every model of golf ball that the company entered in the magazine’s testing. The models: Z-Star and Z-Star XV, Q-Star Tour, Q-Star and Soft Feel.

Rounds 4 Research opens its online auction May 1-7 at www.rounds4research.com with more than 1,000 rounds of golf (each round includes two or four players) available at courses in 41 states, Canada, the Cayman Islands and Costa Rica. Proceeds support research activities of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and its chapters.

We Are Golf, a coalition of the game’s leading associations and industry partners, visited Capitol Hill for the 10th annual National Golf Day. Golf representatives talked with legislators about the game’s economic impact, charitable contributions, health and environmental benefits.

Wilmington, N.C., will debut a three-hole short course in advance of the PGA Tour’s visit to the coastal city for the Wells Fargo Championship on May 4-7. The Tour is relocating to Wilmington because this year’s PGA Championship will be played at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., the traditional host of the Wells Fargo. Architect John Fought designed the three-hole course at Wilmington Municipal Golf Course, which he renovated in 2014.

GT AirInject, the founder of the Air2G2 aerification machine, has joined the Asian Golf Industry Federation. The company will discuss its products at AGIF seminars during the next year.
