There are different degrees of hot. There is boiling water, steaming pipes, searing flames.

And then there is Kenny Perry.

“That's been the story of my career,” Perry said. “When I get hot, I'll win two or three tournaments in a row. I did that on the regular tour twice. …

Number of bogeys made by Tommy Fleetwood in a final-round 5-under 66 at Le Golf National in Paris as the Englishman rallied to win the European Tour’s HNA French Open. American Peter Uihlein (68), who held a share of the 54-hole lead, finished second at 11-under 273. Uihlein joins France’s Mike Lorenzo-Vera (66) and Sweden’s Alexander Bjork (71), who tied for third at 8-under 276, in qualifying for the British Open through the Open Qualifying Series.

A hardened position against GelTees

In response to your column on GelTees, I find your take highly amusing (“GelTees allow golfers to play with clean minds,” June 30, http://bit.ly/2sqgwR3).

Let me get this straight: I am supposed to buy a 20-pack of these biodegradable tees that shatter after every hit, for every round of golf, at $1.99? As someone who regularly plays 36-54 holes (100 last Friday), I am not about to go through 50 tees in one day. (Not to mention the bucket of balls most of us hit before a round.) And then there's the issue of carrying 18 of these in your pocket each round. Or maybe we should grab one out of the bag before every tee shot, as if the game isn't slow enough. This is complete nonsense.

In the news

Concerned: About the future of the Ladies European Tour, members of the women’s tour, according to The Times newspaper of London. The LET has canceled five tournaments this season amid sponsorship issues. Helen Alfredsson, an LET director and player president, emailed players to implore them not to vent their frustrations via social media, The Times reported, citing a player source. The LET, which has played only four tournaments this season, competes in Thailand this week. The LET released a statement rebutting the report (http://bit.ly/2tFQkC1).
