There probably isn’t enough beer and pretzels on the planet to settle the argument in golf’s global sports bars, or enough virtual ink in chatrooms and hot-take portals such as Twitter.

However, for some golf fans who feel fervently enough about the newly charged race to complete the career Grand Slam, there now is a way to put your money where your mouth is.

Canadian Open deserves better spot

As a former member of Glen Abbey, before Jack Nicklaus’ redesign, I have a soft spot for the course and the Canadian Open (“Canadian Open oozes history but seeks future,” July 27, http://bit.ly/2vLHb92).

The position in which the tournament has been relegated by the PGA Tour’s former commissioner disappoints me. It deserves a more prominent position. The opening week of the FedEx Cup playoffs would be a great position for a tournament that, as Morning Read mentioned, is the third-oldest continually running championship on the PGA Tour.

Number of rounds to be played in the next three days after rain washed out Thursday’s play in the Web.com Tour’s Digital Ally Open at Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kan. With the first round pushed until Friday, tournament officials expect to make the 36-hole cut after Saturday’s second round and then hold a 36-hole day on Sunday.

FROM THE INDUSTRY

GolfTec began its annual Crush-It promotion to provide special rates on the company’s instruction programs, through Aug. 25. Golfers can receive up to 20 percent off lessons.

The Fairmont Grand Del Mar has partnered with Torrey Pines Golf Club to create a golf vacation package to the San Diego area. Rates for the Canyon to Coast Package begin at $525 per night, with a two-night minimum.
