Dustin Johnson walked over and stood next to the tented podium where Rory McIlroy was finishing his official post-round interview with reporters Thursday. 

Somebody noticed Johnson and said, “Is there one more question?”

Heads turned and looked at Johnson, who paused for a second, stone-faced, and then grinned.

Just wrapping up its sixth year, the WGA Caddie Academy gives underprivileged girls from around the country the opportunity to caddie and possibly earn a four-year, all-expenses-paid ride to college on an Evans Scholarship.


Memorial would be better ‘major in May’

The Players is a great event, but the tricked-up 17th hole may provide drama but not greatness.



Number of bogeys made by Belgium’s Thomas Pieters in his WGC Bridgestone Invitational debut Thursday as he opened with a 65 for the first-round lead at Firestone Country Club’s South Course in Akron, Ohio (scores: Scotland’s Russell Knox shot 66 to stand alone in second. This is the first time that Pieters has led a PGA Tour event after 18 holes. On the European Tour, he has held one first-round lead, in the 2016 Made in Denmark, which he ultimately won.



Casa de Campo Resort and Villas in La Romana, Dominican Republic, will play host to its 10th annual Fall Pro-Am on Oct. 18-22. Teams of three amateurs and one professional in the 54-hole event will play two rounds on the Teeth of the Dog course and one at Casa de Campo Dye Fore, both Pete Dye designs. The resort is offering a four-night “Amateur Package” starting at $2,625 per player, based on double occupancy.


Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island, S.C., has introduced its Ultimate Golf Buddy Trip packages that include play on the resort’s three courses: Harbour Town Golf Links, Heron Point and Atlantic Dunes. Prices start at $383 per player, per night. The package rates are available Sept. 9 through May 24.


Golfzon recently released its Arcade software for a dart-based golf game, the South Korean simulator manufacturer announced. The interactive gaming platform offers an arcade-like experience using the traditional golf swing with shots aimed toward a 55-yard-diameter dartboard target set in a water hazard.
