Earlier this season, Kevin Chappell finally put to bed the question of when he finally would notch his first PGA Tour victory. After six runner-up finishes, he claimed the Valero Texas Open in April, in his 180th Tour start. 

But just as a recently-married couple begins to be assaulted by the question of when they are going to have a baby, Chappell, 31, found that his breakthrough and continued steady play has him on the brink of making his first U.S. Presidents Cup team and answering questions such as, "How big of a goal is making the team?" 


Support for Jones 

In his letter, Chris Seyer correctly points out that Bobby Jones accepted payment for his instructional videos and in fact was paid for endorsements and other things as well (“From the Morning Read inbox,” Aug. 28, http://bit.ly/2wdhh04). The difference is that all of the money that Jones made from golf was made after he retired from championship golf at age 28.


Out: For at least two weeks, Michelle Wie, who underwent an emergency appendectomy in Ottawa, Golf Channel reported. Wie, 27, withdrew before the final round of last week’s Canadian Pacific Women’s Open, in which she trailed by six strokes, to enter a local hospital. The LPGA plays in Portland, Ore., this week and Indianapolis next week before the final major tournament of the season, The Evian Championship, on Sept. 14-17 at Evian-les-Bains, France. It was unclear whether Wie would be ready for Evian.

Cleveland Golf has released its updated TFi 2135 Satin putter models, which include new alignment and speed-control features. The clubs are available for presale and officially launch Sept. 15.


Antigua Group will play its Fourth Annual Antigua Invitational on Sept. 8 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., the apparel maker announced. The tournament pairs a club professional with two amateurs from the Arizona golf community in a three-person team format.
