“Due diligence” is a legal term, referring to a person or organization taking reasonable steps in order to satisfy a legal requirement.

In the real world, it means to dig deeply before entering into an association with a person or company.

You wonder what the PGA Tour thinks “due diligence” means as Wells Fargo, the San Francisco-based bank and sponsor of the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, N.C., for the past seven years, disclosed Thursday that it has uncovered an additional 1.4 million potentially fraudulent bank accounts.

Sports needs rivalries. Yankees-Red Sox, Cavs-Warriors, Tar Heels-Blue Devils, Patriots vs. anybody.

It’s a different game

While we higher-handicappers can play the same place that the pros play, there is no way we could enjoy playing the same course. Length of the holes, firmness and speed of the greens (and the fairways, unless it rains) are completely different when the PGA Tour plays those venues than when we play them.

Chase54 golf apparel congratulated staff member Jerry Kelly for his victory in the recent Boeing Classic on the Champions Tour. Kelly, a tour rookie, won in his 13th start on the 50-and-older circuit.


PGA National Resort and Spa will host the National FootGolf Classic on Sept. 8-9 on the Fazio Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The tournament offers a $12,500 purse, with categories for men, women and seniors (46 and older).


Sixteen current and former PGA Tour players participated Monday in the Second Annual Silo Ridge Pro-Am at Silo Ridge Field Club in Amenia, N.Y. The event raised money for Discovery Land Company Foundation and the North East Community Center in Millerton, N.Y. Among the players: Scott Brown, Ben Crane, Bud Cauley, Harris English, Rickie Fowler, Brian Gay, Dustin Johnson, Colt Knost, Matt Kuchar, Andrew Magee, Pat Perez, Chez Reavie, Jordan Spieth, Chris Stroud, Hudson Swafford and Justin Thomas.
