The tournament vacuum on the PGA Tour this week represents something of a rarity: a scheduled bye week during one of the busiest, most lucrative portions of the season.

The European Tour faced the prospect of a bye week during a crucial stretch of its upcoming season, too, in the winter Desert Swing.

Phil Mickelson kept his streak alive.

Mickelson was selected by U.S. captain Steve Stricker for the Presidents Cup, which will be Mickelson’s 23rd consecutive international team event (“Mickelson doesn’t deserve Presidents Cup pick,” Sept. 6, http://bit.ly/2xPbRqK). Charley Hoffman was the other U.S. pick, completing the 12-man team that will face the Internationals on Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J.

Take action, LPGA fans

If you would like to see the LPGA players treated more respectfully as to prize money, there are a few things you can do to help out (“From the Morning Read inbox,” Sept. 5, http://bit.ly/2eHoC29; “Lewis makes special delivery for Houston,” Sept. 4, http://bit.ly/2eWHjvm).

When Golf Channel shows the LPGA event on tape delay instead of live, call and complain. The LPGA gets bumped regularly for PGA Tour, Champions and even the Web.com Tour.

87

Editor’s note: Morning Read publisher Alex Miceli was not among the 87 percent (“Mickelson doesn’t deserve Presidents Cup pick,” Sept. 6, http://bit.ly/2xPbRqK).
