You get the feeling that it’s not about money for Peter Uihlein. Or even about playing on the best golf tour in the world. Or about being home on a Sunday night after having made the cut. All right, maybe a little about that.

Instead, it seems to be about traveling the world, sampling different cultures and life experiences. About being willing to venture outside of his comfort zone and eventually being comfortable in it.

Shape up, Euro and PGA tours

Well, I guess the European and PGA tours are on a roll ignoring the actions of bad actors in exchange for a good old dollar or euro. First, Wells Fargo (“Wells Fargo’s latest misstep mars PGA Tour,” Sept. 1, http://bit.ly/2wzrMJA), and now the terror-sponsoring nation of Qatar (“Euro Tour ignores Qatar’s terror ties,” Sept. 7, http://bit.ly/2xQfITL).

Perhaps it is time for me to spend my dollars elsewhere.

Number of players tied for the first-round lead in the Omega European Masters. Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, England’s Tyrrell Hatton and Australia’s Scott Hend shot 6-under 64s on Thursday at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans Montana, Switzerland (scores: http://bit.ly/2wMJrQF).

In the news

Withdrawn: Michelle Wie, from next week’s Evian Championship, the LPGA’s fifth and final major event of the season. Wie, 27, is recovering from an emergency appendectomy Aug. 27, when she pulled out of the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open before the final round.

FROM THE INDUSTRY

Tagmarshal, which provides pace-of-pay algorithms to the golf industry, is operational at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island (S.C.) Golf Resort, the company announced. Kiawah Island joins other major-event hosts such as Whistling Straits, Erin Hills, Valhalla, East Lake, Carnoustie and Ballybunion as courses that employ Tagmarshal’s geotagging technology.

GT AirInject plans to ship four new Air2G2 aerification machines to Texas golf courses and athletic fields to aid in the recovery from Hurricane Harvey. The machines, to be delivered next week, will be used at about 20 golf courses and numerous athletic fields, the company says.
