Bury Phil Mickelson at your own risk … but I wouldn’t do that if I were you.

Yes, he hasn’t won in four years.

Yes, he pretty much stunk up the joint this year, at least by his past standards. Zero top-five finishes in stroke-play events, and no serious chances to win. Missed cuts at the British Open and PGA; a missed appearance at the U.S. Open.


Don’t blame white males for LPGA’s woes 

This talk about using gender and race to justify the problem only creates more problems for the LPGA (“From the Morning Read inbox,” Sept. 14,

I guess it is the fashionable thing these days to oversimplify a problem of marketing and exposure simply by blaming a few white males here and there.

Score by which Judith Kyrinis defeated Terrill Samuel for the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur title Thursday at Waverley Country Club in Portland, Ore. Kyrinis, 53, a registered nurse from Toronto and Samuel, 56, a recently retired teacher also from Toronto, live about 20 minutes apart. In winning the first U.S. Golf Association championship match between two Canadian competitors, Kyrinis became the seventh USGA champion from Canada and the first since 2005 (scoring: Kyrinis was the 2014 Senior Women’s Amateur runner-up, to Joan Higgins.
