Although it’s sometimes inconvenient, often confusing and at times seemingly unfair, we can’t play golf without the rules.

Even when we don’t know how to enforce them evenly and fairly.

Over the weekend, a rules kerfuffle in Korea was so outlandish and outrageous as to baffle any reasonable person or the most experienced rules expert.


Players, not the game, are at fault

You can't compare the pace of play in golf to the shot clock in basketball or other time restrictions in baseball or football (“From the Morning Read inbox,” Oct. 20, In those sports, it's the game that's slow; in golf, it's the players who are slow.

Announced: That he will begin his mandatory military service in South Korea, Seung-yul Noh, 26, a one-time winner on the PGA Tour. Noh said that he intends to enter the service, which is mandatory for all South Korean males ages 18-35, in November. Noh tied for 36th in the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges in the PGA Tour’s debut in South Korea on Sunday. It was expected to be his final Tour event.
