For years, slow play has been a buzz term in golf.

Players, media, fans and others have continued to harp on golf’s plodding pace and how it is harming the game. 

The USGA, which with the R&A is responsible for administering the Rules of Golf, has done little to help speed up play, leaving it essentially to others.


Respect rights of others and keep up

I agree that pace of play is the player's problem (“From the Morning Read inbox,” Oct. 20, http://bit.ly/2xTbzxZ; Oct. 23, http://bit.ly/2gE2Sow). As to stopping at the turn to grab lunch, most courses don't want you to bring your own food. It's a revenue source for the course, so I think everyone should be able to stop and grab something quickly – that, or the beverage cart needs to provide a better selection.



Number of major professional tour events in the past three weeks to be played at TPC Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. This week, the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia will be played on the club’s East Course, beginning Thursday. Two weeks ago, the PGA Tour’s CIMB Classic was played on the club’s West Course.



Players using Nippon Shaft equipment won on the European Tour and finished second on the PGA Tour during the past weekend, the shaft maker reported. The winner of the Andalucia Valderrama Masters used Nippon shafts in his irons and wedges, and the runner-up in the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges used Nippon shafts in his irons.


Carr Golf, which promotes golf tours in Ireland and Scotland, announced the winners of its inaugural Donald Ross Invitational Tournament at Royal Dornoch Golf Club in Scotland. Nikki Christie (Carnoustie Golf Links) and Gareth Hall (Royal Dornoch) won the gross division. Tom Scarbrough and Sean Tobin of Florida’s Country Club of Orlando won the Stableford title.


Brian J. Sleeman has been appointed head golf professional at The Preserve Golf Club at Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel, Calif., the club announced. Sleeman, 38, had been the senior assistant professional at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
