In golf, there’s an old adage that when things are not going well, play better and all will be fine.

Of course, not all adages are foolproof.

Take Emily Nash, a junior at Lunenburg (Mass.) High School.

Nash played in the Central Massachusetts Division 3 Golf Championship on Tuesday at Blissful Meadows Golf Course in Uxbridge, where she led her team to a fourth-place finish. She shot 3-over 75, four strokes better than anybody else.

Scottish golf, eh?

On the one hand, these are exciting times for the sport's birthplace due to a handful of rookies, led by Walker Cup duo Connor Syme and Robert MacIntyre, making encouraging starts to their professional careers.

Women sense pace of game

Having taught my wife to play, and now she is a 6 handicap and our club champion, it's hilarious how many men roll their eyes when they get paired with us when we travel, or sometimes even refuse to play with us. Then we get the standing-with-hands-on-hips look or even hitting into us while we are waiting to take our shots.

Announced: By the PGA Tour, that PGA Tour China Series will resume play in the spring after a one-year hiatus. A four-year agreement between the PGA Tour and the China Golf Association was disclosed Wednesday at the WGC HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai. Purses will be at least 1.5 million yuan (about $226,000), which is about 25 percent more than in 2016. The top five money winners will earn status on the Web.com Tour for 2019.

Keeping score

30

Number of years since Davis Love III first appeared in Mississippi for the PGA Tour’s annual stop. In 1987, Love tied for 43rd in the Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic, which was played in April, opposite the Masters, at Hattiesburg Country Club. Love, 53, a 21-time winner on Tour, will be making his third appearance at what today is known as the Sanderson Farms Championship, at Jackson Country Club. His son, Dru, 23, also will be playing, on a sponsor exemption (tee times: http://bit.ly/2gHiJ5S).
