Season-long dominance on the PGA Tour Champions didn’t translate into a season-ending coronation for Bernhard Langer at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship over the weekend. That’s not necessarily wrong, but it is odd.

Money list as measuring stick in professional golf seems as antique as a shag bag, although it worked just fine for a long time.

Langer succumbs to ‘pressure’ in finale

After Bernhard Langer finished his round Sunday in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, he was asked about the fairness of the Champions Tour’s Schwab Cup playoffs. His response sounded just like a player who knew he didn’t play well enough to win. He said that perhaps changes are needed. I guess he’s referring to his dominant season, only to blow it in the final tournament (“Keeping score,” Nov. 13, http://bit.ly/2zGvOl9).

Number of players in this week’s European Tour season finale, the DP World Tour Championship, who remain in the running for the overall title of the 2016-17 season. Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose or Sergio Garcia will emerge as the Race to Dubai champion at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Fleetwood holds the lead by 256,737 points over Rose, but Rose or Garcia still can win the title this week (scenarios: http://bit.ly/2AHjwsw; season rankings: http://bit.ly/VgywIq).

In the news

Withdrew: From this week’s DP World Tour Championship, Henrik Stenson, citing a rib injury, he said in a post to his Instagram account. Stenson, 41, of Sweden, is 13th in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai standings entering the season-ending tournament at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He also missed last week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge, citing the injury. Stenson, who is No. 9 in the Official World Golf Ranking, won the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour in August but has not won this season on the European Tour. He won last year’s Race to Dubai.
