In dance-floor terms, the back-to-back PGA Tour stops near Dallas each May could rightly be called the Texas Two-Step.

California plays host to an early string of four tournaments in five weeks, with a minor detour to nearby Phoenix parked right in the middle. Given the Golden State’s punk-rock pedigree, we’ll call it a protracted slam dance.

As for the spastic choreography of what historically has been dubbed the Florida Swing, it’s got about as much elegance and artistic continuity as three drunk guys falling down a flight of stairs.

The most important piece of equipment in your bag next year might not be a golf club. It could be a ruler.

This is not a joke. Rules changes proposed by the U.S. Golf Association to take effect in 2019 mean that you’ll be taking relief differently in 2019 – at least, if you play by the Rules of Golf.


Golf’s growth potential

Thanks to Morning Read for publishing the article about Moon Golf in Florida (“Moonshot: Retailer gears up as college host,” Feb. 20).

The article not only highlights a specific commitment to female golf at the high school/collegiate levels, but also demonstrates that there is great potential to grow the game for and with women. My wife, an avid golfer, often laments the lack of attention paid by major media and merchandisers to women’s golf.

Hopefully, more articles such as this will help create a surge in this largely untapped base. 


Named: As assistant captains for the U.S. Ryder Cup team, Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods. Captain Jim Furyk made the announcement Tuesday at PGA headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Stricker and Woods will join Davis Love III as assistants for the biennial matches against Europe on Sept. 28-30 at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France. Furyk is expected to name two more assistants.



Number of times in the past three years that South Korea’s Amy Yang has won the Honda LPGA Thailand title. Yang, 28, a three-time winner on the LPGA, returns to Siam Country Club in Chonburi to defend her title beginning Thursday (tee times).

The 2018 Game Improvement Summit, a golf teaching seminar, will be held April 20-22 at Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall and Stallion Mountain Golf Club in Las Vegas. Cost for the two-day summit, including two nights’ lodging at Sam’s Town Hotel, is $895. The goal of the summit will be to shave strokes from the games of average weekend golfers and boost their enjoyment of the game.


Four Arcis Golf properties in Colorado have been recognized for excellence by Colorado Avid Golfer magazine. Arrowhead Golf Club in Littleton, Park Hill Golf Club in Denver, The Pinery Country Club and The Club at Pradera, both in Parker, won numerous honors in the annual readers-choice CAGGY Awards.
