From an execution standpoint, many of the production elements involved in the new Tiger Woods biography were fundamentally basic. Do the research, buy the shovels, make the calls, vet some old facts, imbue it with some fresh color, run it past the lawyers, then count the money.

Somewhat disappointingly, the unimpressively titled “Tiger Woods” is presented in straight chronological order, with minimal slant or analysis regarding the frequently high life and disturbingly low times of the most polarizing figure in golf history.


Fond remembrances of Augusta

Some reflections from my wonderful Augusta experience, which was the Wednesday practice round in 2012:

Number of LPGA victories for Pernilla Lindberg, who outlasted Inbee Park over eight sudden-death playoff holes spanning two days to win the ANA Inspiration on Monday at Rancho Mirage, Calif. In her 193rd career start, Lindberg dropped a 30-foot birdie putt at the par-4 10th hole at Mission Hills Country Club on the fourth playoff hole of the morning – after four extra holes lateSunday – for her breakthrough victory in the season’s first major championship. Lindberg, 31, of Sweden, played college golf at Oklahoma State before turning pro in 2009 and joining the LPGA in 2010. Lindberg, Park and Jennifer Song had tied at 15-under 273 for 72 holes. Song was eliminated on the third playoff hole Sunday night before darkness suspended play between Lindberg and Park after a fourth extra hole, all at the par-5 18th (scores).



Global Turf Equipment has hired Jomar Figueroa as operations manager at the company, which sells used golf-course equipment. GTE is based in San Antonio, Fla., where it displays 400-600 machines in 35,000 square feet of warehouse space.


GolfNow and GlobalGolf have partnered to offer golfers credit toward rounds of golf in exchange for their used clubs. GolfNow is an online tee-time booking service, and GlobalGolf is an online retailer.


Four Seasons Resort Lanai has received an Editors’ Choice Award for “Best in Travel 2018” in the May issue of Golf Digest magazine, the Hawaii resort announced. The resort features the Jack Nicklaus-designed Manele Golf Course.


Villa del Palmar Beach Resort and Spa at The Islands of Loreta has received an Editors’ Choice Award for “Best in Travel 2018” in the May issue of Golf Digest magazine, the resort in Baja California Sur, Mexico, announced. The resort features the Rees Jones-designed TPC Danzante Bay course.


Sea Pines Resort has received an Editors’ Choice Award for “Best in Travel 2018” in the May issue of Golf Digest magazine, the Hilton Head Island, S.C., resort announced. The resort features the Harbour Town Golf Links, site of the PGA Tour’s annual RBC Heritage.


Quivira Golf Club in Los Cabos, Mexico, has received an Editors’ Choice Award for “Best in Travel 2018” in the May issue of Golf Digest magazine, the resort announced. The resort features a Jack Nicklaus-designed course.


Nippon Shaft acknowledged the winner of the ANA Inspiration, who played the company’s equipment in winning the LPGA’s first major championship of the season. The winner used the N.S. Pro 850GH steel shafts in her irons and wedges in a tournament that required an eight-hole playoff spanning two days.
