Unless you’re a true golf geek, chances are good that you’ve never even heard of the World Scientific Congress of Golf. 

But the chances are even better that you, and just about every other golfer, have been influenced by this biennial summit.


Van Sickle’s view sounds unnatural

I generally enjoy reading Gary Van Sickle’s columns, but this one really struck a nerve (“Trend could be music to golfers’ ears,” May 2).

Comparing rock music to chirping birds?

The sounds of nature are an integral part of my golf experience. Birdsong, running streams, wind in the leaves, even the distant rumble of a passing freight train – all remind me that I am outside, playing the game I love. These sounds center me, not distract me.



Number of times that Tiger Woods has won PGA Tour events in North Carolina. Woods won the 2007 Wells Fargo Championship. The 16th edition of the tournament begins today at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., where Woods will be making his first start since he tied for 32nd four weeks ago at the Masters (tee times).


Announced: By the PGA of America, that Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas, will be the site of four of the association’s key events beginning next year. The 2019 PGA Cup, the ’19 Women’s PGA Cup, the ’19 Senior PGA Professional Championship and the 2020 Professional Championship will be played at Barton Creek.

Bob Bubka and Jay Randolph Jr. recap the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, which was won by the team of Billy Horschel and Scott Piercy, and preview this week’s Wells Fargo Championship, which begins today in Charlotte, N.C. In Groove Up with Vertical Groove Golf, the Grill Room takes a look at the Insperity Invitational, with John Daly defending. Alex Miceli, the founder and publisher of Morning Read, shares his insight into Carnoustie, site of this summer’s British Open. Troon has been selected to manage Thanksgiving Point Golf Club in Lehi, Utah, the company announced. Troon Golf, the daily-fee operating division of Troon, will oversee the golf, club and food-and-beverage operations of the club.


With this weekend’s innovative Golf Sixes format, which includes men and women in six-hole segments on the European Tour, golf is building momentum for Women’s Golf Day. Venues worldwide are signing up for the June 5 event.


Footwear manufacturer Ecco reported that Lydia Ko wore the brand while winning the recent LPGA Mediheal Championship. Ko played in the Ecco Biom G2 model.


Youth on Course has entered into an agreement with the Metropolitan Golf Association to bring affordable junior golf to metropolitan New York. Youth on Course is a nonprofit organization that provides youngsters with subsidized golf, college scholarships, caddie programs and paid internships.
