It pains me to no end to see the United States’ performance in the Ryder Cup. We have won only three of the past 12 in the biennial matches. Embarrassing, that.

So, what should we do? I solve complicated problems for a living. Thus, here would be a real-world, private-sector approach to fixing the problem, which I define as consistent failure to win Ryder Cups.

Amid the aftermath of the Ryder Cup, you might have missed the fact that the World Golf Hall of Fame released the names of 15 finalists for the 2019 induction.

They’re all worthy, I’m sure, of recognition and induction someday into a hall that no longer recognizes excellence as much as the entertainment value of induction.


An endorsement for ‘Handsome Johnny’
Wow, what a powerful and perfect article by Jeff Babineau (“ ‘Handsome Johnny’ would shine in bronze,” Oct. 8). I was floored at the details. I now know why I saw so many golf clubs that were stamped with the name of Johnny Farrell.

Members of the Selection Committee for the World Golf Hall of Fame now have an open-and-shut case to make this happen, and I am certain that they will.



Number of players among the top 10 on the Symetra Tour’s money list who competed in all 21 of the developmental tour’s events during the recently completed season. China’s Ruixin Liu, who won the season-ending Symetra Tour Championship to claim the top spot on the season money list, was joined by Northern Ireland’s Stephanie Meadow and England’s Charlotte Thomas in competing in all events. They were among the top 10 who earned exempt status for the 2019 LPGA season (money list).
