Basic golfer responsibilities, such as repairing ball marks, raking bunkers, replacing divots and following cart-directional signs, are being neglected like never before.

A playing partner of mine summed it up best. “You may not know all of the Rules of Golf, but even the most casual golfer knows that when you are in a sand trap, it is supposed to be raked before you leave.” It sounds simple, but unfortunately it doesn’t always happen, and it’s probably a bigger problem on public golf courses than it is at private clubs.


Timeless lessons from father of ‘ready golf’
To combat slow play, perhaps it would be instructive for today’s golfers to consider how the great Robert T. “Bobby” Jones Jr. approached each shot. Golf writer and Jones confidant Charles Price summarized it best in his book A Golf Story:

“What did the Jones swing look like? Well, if you didn’t position yourself in the gallery soon enough to see him pluck the club from his bag that he was going to use, you might miss the swing altogether, so free was his shot-making of preliminary nonsense.

Thirty-seven Troon-affiliated golf courses were featured in Golfweek’s annual “Ultimate Guide” of best courses for 2019. Kapalua’s Plantation Course on Maui, Hawaii, rated No. 16 on the Best 100 Resort Courses list to lead the Troon courses.
