The caddie-player relationship is one of the most tenuous in human dynamics. A seemingly professional bliss can be shattered in one round or even one shot.

Jordan Spieth, 25, a three-time major champion, has had the same caddie, Michael Greller, on the bag for all of his 6½ years on the PGA Tour. Many observers rate Greller as one of the best caddies on the PGA Tour. He has been a steady jockey on the back of one of golf’s thoroughbreds.

Longtime golf journalists John Hawkins and Jeff Rude are co-hosts of a weekly podcast, Hawk & Rude, in which they discuss and debate the hottest issues in golf. They also share their takes in this weekly installment.

Appreciate golf history as a national treasure
I was pleased to see Morning Read acknowledge the importance of the history of our game in two articles Thursday (“Koepka 3-peat would turn back clocks” and “Champions Tour offers more than legends,” June 13).

History is so very important generally, and it translates to specific sports as well. The sports we play and how we play them are a direct reflection of our society as a whole.
