This is what it must feel like to be Rickie Fowler these days. Everyone who’s anyone has won major championships this decade. Shane Lowry. Gary Woodland. Danny Willett. Webb Simpson. Jimmy Walker. Even the formerly luckless Sergio Garcia.

Everyone, that is, except Fowler.



Test winner’s gear? That idea gets failing grade
I have heard many bad ideas in my day, but testing the winner's equipment for compliance after the tournament is over is one of the worst (“From the Morning Read inbox,” July 22, July 23, July 24).

Disqualify the winner, with no title, no money? That certainly would be a feel-good story, wouldn't it? How could that be good for golf? Great headline: “Lowry DQ’ed for using illegal driver. Son of Ireland shamed following greatest victory.”



Position in the FedEx Cup standings and the Official World Golf Ranking for American Brooks Koepka, one of the headliners at this week’s WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Koepka, a two-time winner this season, will be seeking his first WGC title.

Wake Forest and Virginia have accepted invitations to play in the 2019 Annika Intercollegiate, completing the 12-team women’s field, organizers announced. The tournament will be played Sept. 15-18 at Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn.


The Bay Club Academy, a program that is dedicated to player development, has been launched at three California clubs, management company Troon announced. The academy will operate at StoneTree Golf Club in Novato, Boulder Ridge Golf Club in San Jose and Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe.


Silverado Resort and Spa’s North Course in Napa, Calif., has been named to Golfweek magazine’s Top 200 Resort Courses in the U.S. list. The Johnny Miller-designed course, site of the PGA Tour’s Safeway Open, ranked No. 149.


Ahead will introduce its spring headwear collection at the PGA Fashion & Demo Experience, to be held Aug. 13-14 at The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. Ahead’s men’s and women’s lineups will include a variety of styles, colors, fabrics and features.
