Longtime golf journalists John Hawkins and Jeff Rude are co-hosts of a weekly podcast, Hawk & Rude, in which they discuss and debate the hottest issues in golf. They also share their takes in this weekly installment.

What was the biggest surprise to emerge from the 2019 major championships?

Blame Callaway, not Schauffele for faulty driver
I read with interest the article about the driver issue at the British Open (“From the Morning Read inbox,” July 22, July 23, July 24, July 25).

It would seem to me that the R&A should have tested all Callaway Epic Flash drivers once they found that one was nonconforming. Otherwise, they are indeed saying that the player, Xander Schauffele, is a cheat.

Announced: Adare Manor in Adare, Ireland, will play host to the 2026 Ryder Cup, according to Ryder Cup Europe, the consortium that manages the biennial match between Europe and the U.S. It will be Ireland’s second staging of the Ryder Cup, after Europe’s 18½-9½ drubbing of the U.S. in the 2006 match at The K Club.

Number of years since American Paula Creamer, the first-round leader at the Evian Championship, has won on the LPGA. Creamer, 32, shot a bogey-free 7-under 64 at Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France to open a one-stroke lead.

New Zealand’s Phillis Meti and American Kyle Berkshire won the respective women’s and men’s divisions of the World Long Drive ROC City Rumble late Wednesday in Rochester, N.Y. Meti hit a 320-yard drive at Home Team Sports Park to win her third title in four events this season. Berkshire belted a 380-yard drive to become the new top-ranked player in the Open Division.

Phillis Meti used a Tour Edge Exotics EXS driver to win the World Long Drive ROC City Rumble, the manufacturer reported. With a 7.5-degree driver equipped with a Reve Revolver X shaft, Meti hit seven of her eight drives within the grid, with a winning distance of 320 yards.

Laughlin Ranch Golf Club in Bullhead City, Ariz., has been ranked No. 14 in the state in Golfweek magazine’s “2019 Best Courses You Can Play” list. Laughlin Ranch, alongside the Colorado River and near the Black Mountains, features a David Druzisky-designed golf course.

The PGA Fashion & Demo Experience will feature a complimentary technology forum next month in Las Vegas. The National Golf Course Owners Association will present two panel programs: improving customer engagement and facility revenue, on Tuesday, Aug. 13; and best practices for teaching and coaching, on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Actor/comedian Kevin Hart will be David Feherty’s guest Monday night on the show “Feherty” on Golf Channel. The show will air at 9 p.m. EDT.
