How would you rate the 2018-19 golf season?

In PGA Tour terminology, I give it 447 FedEx Cup points. (Yes, the FedEx Cup scoring system reign of terror continues … mu-ha-ha!)

In Roman Colosseum emperor lingo, it’s a thumbs up. (Darn it; put the lions on hold, Flavius.)



Golf, harder than ever? That’s ridiculous
The game has gotten more difficult? I don’t think so. Not even close (“From the Morning Read inbox,” Aug. 28).

Today’s golf ball has received billions in research and development and has been designed to fly straighter, farther, penetrate the wind better and is durable enough to use for 36 holes, if you don’t lose it.


Nominated: Americans Brooks Koepka, Matt Kuchar and Xander Schauffele and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy for the PGA Tour’s Jack Nicklaus Award as the 2019 Player of the Year.



Number of players who have won three consecutive titles at the Omega European Masters. England’s Matthew Fitzpatrick, the two-time defending champion, will seek to become the first three-peat winner when the European Tour event begins today at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans Montana, Switzerland.

Golf Channel will air tournament coverage from four major professionals tours this week. The network will cover two events that start Thursday, the LPGA’s Cambia Portland Classic and the European Tour’s Omega European Masters; and two events that begin Friday, the Korn Ferry Tour Championship and the Champions Tour’s Shaw Charity Classic.


The final World Long Drive event of the season will be held Tuesday and Wednesday on the Texas-Oklahoma border. Golf Channel will televise the competition beginning at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 3 and Sept. 4 at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla.


PGA Golf Club will host the second annual Red, White & You Fairway 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, Oct. 20. The event begins at 7 a.m. Proceeds will benefit PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere).


The Lodges at Cordillera Ranch has been introduced for guests of members at Cordillera Ranch in Boerne, Texas. The accommodations are located on the third hole of the club’s Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.


Steve Delmar shot 8-under 64 to win the recent Pella Invitational Pro-Am at Montgomery Country Club in Laytonsville, Md. Delmar is a PGA associate at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Md.


Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort on Hilton Head Island, S.C., is gearing up for the Labor Day weekend and the beginning of the fall golf season. Palmetto Dunes offers a variety of golf packages for the season on its three courses: Hills, Jones and Fazio.


Tournament sponsor Omega held its annual Omega Celebrity Masters competition during Wednesday's pro-am tournament in advance of this week's Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. Omega spokesmen Tommy Fleetwood, Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy joined a number of entertainment figures in the event.


Omega introduced its Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light watch in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, site of this week's Omega European Masters. Company spokesmen Tommy Fleetwood, Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy were on hand to help introduce the product.
